The large, fenced yard has numerous native trees and beautiful flowers. Very peaceful. There is a large tree house in one of the roble trees with a "canopy" (zinger).
In Villarrica, winter temperatures will occasionally dip down to freezing at night. But they don't need to bury the water pipes. The summers in Villarrica are near perfect with highs in the 70's and low 80's with an occasional day reaching 90. The nights always cool off nicely. This local in Chile is known for it's great weather. Our neighbor, a life-time resident, claims that this spot in Chile has 100+ perfect (around 70 and sunshine) days out of the year. The North gets hot and dry. Farther South gets colder, rainier, and foggy.
Water is supplied from a deep community water well with a storage tank on a hill. The electric bill for the pump is divided among the houses it serves and comes out to be just $10/month. The water is clean, fresh, great tasting and very inexpensive. We do not need to use a filter.
The house is conveniently located 2 km (1.2 miles) from Villarrica and is only 200 meters off the paved road into town. You do not see traffic from the house, just trees, forests, and a few neighborhood homes. It is in the country, but very close to town. It is a few minutes drive to fresh fruit and vegetable markets and stores. El Tit is a modern grocery store in town right next to a modern hardware store (similar to Lowe's or Home Depot.)
Villarrica (pop. 27,000) is the second largest city in Region 9 and has all the goods and services you would need. One of our favorite things about living in Chile has been the delicious apricots, Bing cherries, fresh cheese, etc. The convenience of living near town, yet in the country is a great plus.
The Villarrica/Pucón area is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Chile. The area includes numerous large crystal-clear lakes for swimming, national parks for camping and hiking, beautiful rivers for kayaking and fishing, snow skiing on the volcano, restaurants, and lots of clean fresh air. And it stays green year round.
The house is 76 km (45 miles)from Temuco, the capital of the region. It takes 45-50 minutes to get to the airport in Temuco.
Vulcan Villarrica is an active volcano. Adventurous hikers trek up it for a peak into the crater. If it makes you nervous to think about living near a volcano, take comfort in knowing there is a hill and a large lake between this house and the volcano. Villarrica has been kept safe through past eruptions, unlike Pucon which is on the path of the lava flow.
The asking price of the house is $75 million CLP (Chilean Pesos) which is approximately $120,000.00 USD.
